A Kikuyu band, Mbiri Stars also recorded as Mbiri Young Stars and Mbiri Hot Stars but in every case the key figure was Simon Kihara Wamumbe, known universally as Musaimo. One of the veterans of Kenyan music, Musaimo is still active, playing a US tour in 2009 and appearing at a concert to mark Daniel Kamau’s 45 years in music in Nairobi in 2010.
